I want to share how I started to ‘stan’ Taylor Swift. I remember wanting to watch the ‘Fave 5’ music videos on TV when I was still in elementary school. Love Story by Taylor is on that show for as long as I remember watching it. There might even be a time that You belong with me joined the former in the top 5 and they ruled the list together. I enjoyed listening to these iconic songs (because who wouldn’t?) but during this time watching the show and other music videos on the same channel was my only access to music. How could I have listened to her other masterpieces then?

I stopped watching the show growing up because of reasons I can no longer remember. I also did not have to because in high school I started to learn about the different ways to access music (anybody remember Limewire?) and that’s great because I get to choose what I listen to. I wasn’t really her biggest fan at this time but I really do like her songs. What I remember off the top of my head is Speak Now, Sparks Fly, the mother of all breakup songs We are never ever getting back together, Blank Space – I even remember watching the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show where she debuted Style. But like everyone else (who’s not a super big fan) after ‘1989’ I lost track of her.

Life moved on and so did I. I entered college, joined a lot of extracurriculars, fell in love, got heart-broken, and a bunch of other stuff all without Taylor until one conversation with a friend. We were waiting for our other friends so we played a guess-that-song game from his phone. I was not able to guess the songs because it turns out, the songs he was playing were non-single tracks from Taylor’s collection. It is unbelievable how I did not know those songs (I mean why didn’t I know I know places and The lucky one sooner?!). After that game he told me to take some time and listen to her music, especially the ones that were not singles. I only got around to doing that when I was looking for songs to save offline in Spotify. I started playing her songs in random and I have not stopped since. This was definitely how it all started.
Baby, let the games begin!
Taylor Swift
The games definitely have begun! I could not stop listening to her songs. Her entire collection, that means from Taylor Swift to reputation, is the only source of music I know during this point. I get that why-haven’t-I-heard-this-sooner moment every time I discover one of her songs that I haven’t heard but fell in love with the first 13 seconds I hear it (okay, the 13 count is an exaggeration but c’mon right?). I found myself having memorized the lyrics of her songs because of the sheer number of times I have listened to them (and I don’t regret it one bit). This was also the time I discovered that reputation was actually out and I could not have played Getaway car and …Ready for it? more – they’re just too good, she’s just too good. Everything else cascaded from here on – I am obsessed with instagram posts about her, I watched a lot of interviews of Taylor, paid for a Netflix account just to watch the ‘Reputation Stadium Tour’ (I probably have watched it in full at least 20 times now), found and saved more clips of her performing on pinterest and tumblr and plenty other TS ‘stan’ activities.
This is my story on how I became a certified Swiftie. I would love to hear your stories us well! Please tell me through the different PS social media accounts. Have a great day, fellow Swifties!
